ISA is the professional organisation representing Australian surveying, land information and spatial information professionals, or spatial scientists.. It has 3800 members in Australia and overseas, working in private, public and academic sectors.

Introduction

The Institution was formed in 1952 and has divisions in each state and territory. Each division has its own identity, constitution and assets. The national body decides on membership and national issues.

The Institution is 'non-profit', with member fees its principal income. Fees vary considerably between divisions. Larger divisions have office space and paid staff, while smaller divisions rely on honorary office-bearers.

The Institution considers professional surveying to be "the discipline dealing with policy, administration, collection, measurement, analysis, interpretation, portrayal and dissemination of spatially-related land and sea information, together with associated design and management".
