Upoading your Site using FTP (File Transfer Protocol)

In order to upload your site to CanberraNet  and make changes, you will need an FTP program.  Two popular FTP clients are WS_FTP and CuteFTP

The following outlines the setting you will need to connect your website.  For help in using the FTP program of your choice, we recommend reading the instructions or visiting the software manufacturers web site.

Settings

Server Name:  ftp.yourdomain.xyz

Username: Your username
Password: Your password

Instructions

  • Enter your server name, username, and password in the appropriate boxes.

  • Make the FTP connection to your server.  This is usually done with a connect button.  Your FTP client will tell you if you have a successful connection or experienced any problems

  • Once you are connected to the server, you are usually presented with two explorer windows.  One will show files on your local machine, the other will show files on your webserver.

  • Uploading and downloading files is usually performed by selecting files on your local machine, select a destination on the remote server and pressing the transfer button (usually an arrow in the direction you wish to transfer).

Note:  If you can successfully connect to your server but can only transfer one file at a time, check the settings on your FTP client to ensure that "Passive Transfer" is disabled.
