How to change your DNS settings

Configuring DNS Servers in Windows 95/98/Millenium

  1. Click on the Start button on your screen (usually located in the lower left corner of your Windows screen). A menu will appear. From that menu, choose Settings... and then from the second menu that appears, choose Control Panel.
  2. The Control Panel window will appear. In that window, find the icon labeled Network and double-click on it.
  3. The Network window will then appear. In the window, you will see a list of the network hardware and software components installed on your computer. In the list, look for the items that begin with "TCP/IP".
  4. Find the TCP/IP item that corresponds to your DSL connection. Once you have found it, click once on it so that it is highlighted and then click on the Properties button located below the list of items. If you only have one TCP/IP item, simply labeled "TCP/IP," highlight that item and click on the Properties button.
  5. A new window called TCP/IP Properties will appear. Near the top of the window will be several file tabs. Find the tab labeled DNS Configuration and click on it
  6. On the DNS Configuration tab, look at the section that starts with DNS Server Search Order.
  7. If the larger box below DNS Server Search Order contains any of the following numbers:
     

    203.37.110.3
    203.37.110.2
     


    remove the numbers by clicking on each number and then clicking the Remove button to the right until the numbers are all gone

  8. Now, enter in the following DNS numbers: 202.168.8.3 & 202.168.8.2 After typing in each number, click the Add button to add the number to the larger box below.
  9. You have now changed your DNS settings. Click the OK button at the bottom of the window to close that window, then click the OK button at the bottom of the next window. If you are asked if you want to Restart your computer, click Yes. You are now finished.

    Configuring DNS Servers in Windows 2000

    To Configure TCP/IP:

    1. Click Start, click Settings, click Network and Dial-up Connections
    2. Right click on Local Area Connection, click Properties.
    3. Click Internet Protocol (TCP/IP), click Properties button.
    4. Click Use the following DNS server addresses:
       

      Preferred DNS Server: 202.168.8.3

      Alternate DNS Server: 202.168.8.2

    5. Click OK
    6. Click OK again.

    You may need to restart your computer for the changes to take effect.


    Configuring DNS Servers in Windows NT

    To Configure TCP/IP:

    1. Go to Control Panel
    2. Click on Network
    3. In the Network dialog box, select the Protocols tab. Double-click on TCP-IP Protocol from the Network Protocols section.
    4. Select the DNS tab. From the DNS Service Search Order:
        If the IP addresses presently entered in the DNS Service Search Order box are 203.37.110.3 and/or 203.37.110.2, remove   them by clicking on the Remove button.
    5. Click that Add button.
    6. Enter 202.168.8.3
    7. Click OK
    8. Click Add button again.
    9. Enter 202.168.8.2
    10. Click OK
    11. Click OK from the Microsoft TCP/IP Protocols box.
    12. Click OK again at the box labeled Network


    You may be asked to restart the NT server at this point. Once it reboots your new DNS settings should have taken effect.


    Configuring DNS Servers in Windows XP

    To Configure TCP/IP:

    1. Click Start, click Control Panel, click Network and Internet Connections, and then click Network Connections.
    2. Right-click the network connection that you want to configure, and then click Properties.
    3. On the General tab (for a local area connection), click Internet Protocol (TCP/IP), and then click Properties.
    4. Click Use the following DNS server addresses, and in Preferred DNS server and Alternate DNS server, type the preferred DNS server and alternate DNS server IP addresses.
       

      Preferred DNS server: 202.168.8.3
      Alternate DNS server: 202.168.8.2

    5. Click OK

    You may need to restart your computer for the changes to take effect.


    Configuring DNS Servers in Mac OS 7.53 and Later

    These instructions apply to all versions of Mac OS 7.5.3 and later. You should only follow these instructions if you are using a Mac that is connected to the Bullseye Telecom network via Ethernet.

    1. From the Apple Menu, select Control Panels, then select the TCP/IP control panel.
    2. You will only be changing the field labeled "Name server address." In this field, replace any occurrence of the entries
       

      203.37.110.3
      203.37.110.2

      with

      202.168.8.3
      202.168.8.2

      leaving any other entries alone.

    3. Once you have made these changes you should close the TCP/IP control panel window. Make sure you save the changes.
    4. Test the new domain name servers by running a network application that uses IP (like your browser).
